A Happy Hippie  /  Herb Skool

Simple, practical herbal info

Understand your body, and learn the herbs that help it.

Herb Skool is my Skool community for people who want a bigger say in their own health but aren't sure where to start. We talk about how herbs, food, and your body's systems all work together, in plain language, so the choices you make start to make sense to you. It's especially for those of you living with blood sugar problems, inflammation, digestive trouble, or a nervous system that won't settle down.

SMALL changes = BIG RESULTS

Why I started this group

I didn't get healthy by eating perfectly all the time, and I'm not going to pretend I did.

I'm Robin, and a lot of you know me as G-Ma. For years I saw my weight increasing and my health declining, and despite trying to eat healthier, I realized that I didn't actually know much about how my body worked or what was actually nutritious. When I was diagnosed with morbid obesity, high blood pressure, and type 2 diabetes, I knew I had to start really understanding what was going on. I started researching everything I could and making small changes along the way - small changes I could live with, one at a time. I also learned that it's not always just WHAT herbs and foods you eat but the COMBINATION and WHEN you eat them that makes a huge impact.

Along the way I went to herbal school. I started with maybe two boxes of tea in the back of a cabinet, and nine months later I had around a hundred herbs (and I kept going). Herb Skool is where I share what I've learned, so you understand the reasons behind the choices you make for your own body.

I don't sell any products in Herb Skool. You'll learn about the herbs and the foods, and I can give recommendations for reliable suppliers, but where you get them is completely up to you.

Does this sound like you?

For anyone who wants to understand what's going on in their own body

Blood sugar that won't settle

Type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, or numbers that keep creeping up even after you've cut things out.

Inflammation and pain

Stiff joints, neuropathy, the kind of aching you've been told is normal and you'll have to live with.

Digestion that's off

Bloating, heaviness after meals, a gut that never quite feels right.

Stress that lives in your body

A nervous system that stays wired all day and sleep that doesn't leave you rested.

A cabinet full of herbs

Jars and bottles you bought with good intentions and still aren't sure how to use.

You want to know WHY

You'd like to understand how a food or herb helps before you add it to your day.

You don't need any background in herbs or nutrition to join. A lot of what we do starts with the spices and vegetables already in your kitchen.

What's happening in the group

Something new in the feed most days

Here's a look at what you'll find when you scroll through the community. Members share their own meals, questions, and wins too, and those are some of my favorite posts.

How your body works

Short explainers you can read with your morning coffee, about the processes running behind your glucose numbers, your energy, and your digestion.

The second-meal effect, how sleep shows up on your glucose meter, what your kidneys do all day

Trivia, riddles, and myth or fact

Quick little games that sneak the science in, with the answer and the reasoning right below.

Guess the herb, insulin trivia, decoction or infusion for burdock root?

Food spotlights and label reading

Foods worth a second look, simple swaps, and the ingredients hiding in products that are sold to us as the healthy choice.

Green bananas, lupini beans, black cumin seed, and the maltodextrin in "sugar free" foods

Accountability

A running thread where we check in each time we make a choice that supports steadier blood sugar. Small choices count, and seeing each other's adds up.

Logged a blood sugar reading, tracked what I ate, added a food high in magnesium

Before you join

Small changes add up, and your doctor stays part of the picture.

I'm much more of a proponent of making small, meaningful changes to our habits, because those are sustainable and do the most good over time. I'm always looking for ways to sneak more nutrition into food I already love, and that's a lot of what we do in here.

I don't make medical promises, and nothing in Herb Skool replaces your doctor. Please don't stop or change a medication on your own. I came off mine with my doctors' approval, and if your numbers start moving, bring them to your doctor too, because doses sometimes need adjusting as your body responds.

Some herbs don't mix well with certain medications or conditions, and when that's the case I'll tell you. St. John's Wort is a good example, and so are some of the herbs people take for blood sugar.

Every body is different, and any change to a medication belongs in a conversation with your doctor. I share this so you can see what's possible when someone starts to understand what their body needs.
